Charles Roe Ennis ’54

Charles Roe Ennis ’54 passed away at home in Akron, Ohio, on September 26, 2023, with his wife, Ann, and children at his side. Chuck came to Dartmouth from Grand Junction (Colorado) High School, where he was a member of the student council, Quill and Scroll, and the school paper. He also captained the football and wrestling teams. At Dartmouth he majored in government and was a member of Theta Delta Chi, the Vigilantes, and the wrestling club. He also rowed crew and played freshman football. Chuck went on to graduate from Columbia Law School in 1957 and married Ann Price on August 28, 1958. Chuck had a long and varied career as a labor, trial, and corporate attorney, including for Western Electric Co., the National Labor Relations Board, General Foods Corp., TRW Inc., and Pool Co. Association Oil Tools in London, England. From 1986 through his retirement, he was vice president, secretary, and general counsel of GenCorp Inc. In his retirement Chuck researched oil and mineral rights inherited by the Ennis family and was an active financial manager. He was an avid gardener and stonemason, building stone walls 55 and 65 feet long. Chuck volunteered for Dartmouth as a class agent and member of the class executive committee. In addition to Ann, he is survived by children Christopher, Eve, Matthew, and Jonathan; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
