Charles Edward Benisch Jr. ’52
Charles Edward Benisch Jr. ’52 passed away peacefully on May 13 at his home in John’s Island, Florida. “Ceb” was born in 1930 in Brooklyn, New York, and prepared for college at Manhasset (New York) High School. At Dartmouth Ceb was a member of Sigma Nu, Green Key and Dragon. He was an economics major and a graduate of Tuck School in the five-year program. Ceb was an active alumnus, served as an assistant class agent and attended several alumni college summer programs. Although he was in the NROTC at Dartmouth, a health issue did not require him to see active duty. After graduation he joined Pan American World Airways and, on a business trip, met and later married Nancy, in 1958. She also worked for Pan Am as a flight attendant. She predeceased Ceb in 2003. In the late 1950s Ceb founded Don Travel, a commercial travel agency, whose clients included General Electric and the Singer Co., in New York City. In 1973 he expanded by creating Woodside Travel, a consortium of travel agencies with worldwide offices. Ceb sold the business to Carlson/Wagonlit in 1986 and retired in 1989. He was an avid boater and was a member of Manhasset Bay Yacht Club (commodore, 1974-75), the Creek Club and John’s Island Club. His children Chris, Erik, Joanne ’91 and Jason, eight grandchildren and brother John ’57 survive him.
