C. Frederick Mueller IV ’57

C. Frederick Mueller IV ’57 of Naples, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 8. Fred graduated from the Pingry School in Elizabeth, New Jersey. At Dartmouth he majored in economics, was a member of Psi Upsilon, and active in the Dartmouth Outing Club all four years. Fred was the great-grandson of the founder of C.F. Mueller Co., which at one time was the largest brand of pasta in America. He was director of marketing from 1957 to 1972 and proud of his record increasing sales and profits. The company was subsequently purchased several times and exists today as part of TreeHouse Foods Inc. Fred was an outdoorsman, a man of varied interests. His entry in the class 25th Reunion Book reads, “As an oil roughneck, a commercial fisherman, a Canadian guide [he lived in seven states and provines]…hunted and fished this land from Belize to the Arctic Ocean.” In 1982 he and his family lived in North Carolina, where he was director of sales for San Giorgio/Skinner (Hershey Foods). He was director of a large bank, a duck hunter, and raised and dried herbs. In 1985 he moved to Naples to start a career in real estate. He enjoyed his work as a commercial realtor. He had a great love of plants and landscaping. He was a master gardener and certified horticulturist for the state of Florida. Fred leaves Leah, his wife of 60 years, and daughters Betsy and Margaret.
