Bruce Webb Eaken Jr. ’60

Bruce Webb Eaken Jr. ’60 died on February 11 surrounded by his wife, Wilhelmina, daughter Amanda ’99 and son Bruce III. Bruce was a Cleveland native, law graduate of the University of Michigan and a longtime resident of New York City. He was a successful energy-sector attorney for years for the New York Power Authority. Bruce is remembered for his warmth, contributions to community, playful spirit and terrible jokes. Mina, his wife of 46 years, recalls the St. Bart Players in New York City as the place where Bruce and she first met. “We spent 15 wonderful years acting, singing and dancing on that stage. I joined the players in 1969 and our first show together was Fiorello. We were married in 1971 in the chapel there.” His daughter, Amanda ’99, writes that he was “an adventurous soul—sometimes wildly, irresponsibly so; a fiercely proud and dedicated soccer, baseball and basketball coach, not only to his two children, but also to the larger Upper West Side and Harlem communities; free and generous legal counsel to those in need; a begrudging corporate attorney; an unforgivably bad dresser (partly because of his colorblindness); one of the least pretentious or status-oriented people I have ever known.” Bruce is also survived by his sister, Janet, and her family.
