Bruce Bergquist ’55
Bruce Bergquist ’55 passed away on March 30 in Olympia, Washington. He came to Dartmouth from Worchester (Massachusetts) Academy. Bruce majored in English and was a member of Delta Tau Delta and Navy ROTC. He received a commission as a Navy lieutenant and served as an assistant operations officer on the USS Mathews and as an instructor in the Navy ROTC program at Princeton. After earning an M.A. in English from Middlebury College, Bruce began his career in progressive education at the Hill School in Pennsylvania. In 1978 he founded Baker River School in the woods of New Hampshire and in 1984 became the principal of Solebury School in Pennsylvania. For the last 29 years Bruce lived in Olympia, where he founded the Thurston County Dispute Resolution Center and taught therapy workshops for couples. Bruce is survived by his wife, Betsy; children Sally, Berit, and Sam; and five grandchildren.
