B. Brand Konheim ’57
B. Brand Konheim ’57 of Boca Grande, Florida, and Weston, Connecticut, died April 13 in a bicycle accident. Bud went to Phillips Exeter Academy and at Dartmouth was a member of Psi Upsilon and majored in English history. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps. A fourth-generation apparel producer, Bud hired designer Nicole Miller and together they founded Nicole Miller Inc. Bud and Nicole worked together for more than 40 years. They opened their first shop in 1986 on Madison Avenue in New York City. The company became a major player in the fashion industry. The brand grew to 20 boutiques in major cities across the United States and is sold in a number of high-end department stores. Their role in fashion production was recognized by Women’s Wear Daily. Bud was happiest when he was working. His keen sense of business was amplified by the fact that he kept a positive attitude and didn’t complain unless he could offer a solution. He always said, “I never met a successful pessimist.” In Boca Grande, Bud and his wife, Colleen, were well loved. They became an integral part of the life of the island, sharing their friends from the worlds of fashion, literature, and philanthropy with the community. He was devoted to a prison program that gave service dogs to combat veterans. Bud is survived by Colleen, son Alex, and stepson Christian. Son Eric died in an kayaking accident in 1991.
