Feeling the Heat
With the Lewinstein Athletic Center closed for renovations since June, students this summer used a temporary facility in the John W. Berry Sports Center. As New England faced a heat wave, some worried whether they could safely exercise there, with one joking it seemed “the hottest place on campus and maybe the whole planet.”
Record Breaker
The 45th annual Prouty topped its fundraising goal, raising $12 million for cancer research and patient support programs at the Dartmouth Cancer Center in July.
A Bigger Dartmouth
Dartmouth rustees in June directed administrators to plan for a larger undergraduate student body in the next several years. The College will remain the smallest Ivy, a spokesperson said, but will look at “how to add some students and faculty” in a process that allows for community input.

More Lobbying
College spending on lobbying surged from $83,907 in fiscal year 2024 to $531,910 in fiscal year 2025, a 534 percent increase. All eight Ivies reported an increase during that period.
Quite a Splash
The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association named the women’s and men’s swimming and diving teams Scholar All-America Teams, which recognizes high GPAs and sports achievement. In addition, a record 13 student-athletes were honored as individual Scholar All-Americans.
Shooter Hoax
On the Friday afternoon before Commencement, Hanover police received a report of a “suspicious armed individual” near Baker Library, triggering a campuswide DartAlert and evacuation of the area. Police later concluded the call was “likely a hoax.”
Keep It Clean
At its meeting in late May, the student government voted to provide undergrads with free laundry detergent sheets from Generation Conscious, an environmentally focused startup based in N.Y.C.
Keep It Cool
All undergrad residences—including dorm rooms, living-learning communities, and College-owned Greek houses—will have energy-efficient MicroFridges (with built-in microwaves) this fall, thanks to the residential operations and sustainability offices.
Geisel Investigation
The U.S. Department of Education is investigating “alleged racial discrimination” in admissions at the Geisel School of Medicine and four other schools, according to a July 22 release from the agency. A College spokesperson said Dartmouth stands by its process.
Weatherproof
A bronze version of Ursula Von Rydingsvard’s dynamic 2007 sculpture, Wide Babelki Bowl, is being installed outside Rollins Chapel, where the original cedar version had shown signs of wear. The artist suggested recasting it.
