Arthur R. Johnson ’57

Arthur R. Johnson ’57 passed away at his home in Petaluma, California, on May 19, 2015. He had been ill for quite some time. After spending his early years in New Jersey, Art came to Dartmouth from Grover Cleveland High School in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1953. At Dartmouth he was a member of Beta Theta Pi, Dragon, the Sophomore Orientation Committee, the Undergraduate Council and the Interdormitory Committee. He also played varsity football and rugby. He went on to earn his master’s in business administration from the Tuck School. Art had a long and distinguished career in the financial services industry in the San Francisco area. In 1988 he became portfolio manager for Union Bank and retired in 2002 as manager of the bank’s San Francisco office. His hobbies included tennis, skiing and reading. He was very active in alumni affairs, served as a class officer and was involved in numerous fundraising activities. Art leaves his wife, Elaine, two children, three stepchildren and five grandchildren.
