Aisling Anne Galligan ’11

Aisling Anne Galligan ’11 passed away peacefully on August 6, 2019, in Providence, Rhode Island, surrounded by her family. She was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on September 9, 1989. She was raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, and graduated from Knoxville West High School. In college Aisling studied abroad in New Zealand, completed fieldwork in South Dakota, and served as an officer in Alpha Xi Delta. She graduated with honors in anthropology. In 2013 she earned an M.S. with distinction in skeletal and dental bioarchaeology from University College London. Always adventurous, she enjoyed world travels and had lived in Auckland, New Zealand; Seattle; London; Oakland, California; Nashville; and Providence. Aisling pursued life with enthusiasm and curiosity. Those who loved her were drawn to her zest for life, her keen observations on the world, and her sharp wit. She could always be counted upon to say yes to an adventure, remain unflappable in the face of chaos, and arrive with a perfect playlist, a chic outfit, and a hardcover book. She brought a deep love and loyalty to her relationships. All those who knew her are better for it. She was diagnosed with lung cancer in October 2018, while in her second year of medical school at Brown’s Warren Alpert Medical School, studying to become a pathologist. She is survived by her parents, Susan and Tom, brother Patrick, sisters Sarah ’09 and Jenny, and brothers-in-law Jeremiah and Ethan. She will be missed.
