Thomas Julius Campbell ’54


Thomas Julius Campbell ’54 died December 15, 2009, in Broomfield, Colorado, after a brief struggle with cancer. A native of Denver, Colorado, Tom attended Manual High School, where he served as president of the student council, was a member of the school band and orchestra, active in dramatics, played football and was a member of the wrestling team. At Dartmouth Tom majored in economics and was a member of the Marching Band, WDBS, The Players and Delta Upsilon. He received an ROTC commission as an Air Force second lieutenant. After distinguished service of 22 years he retired as a lieutenant colonel, his final command being an intercontinental ballistic missile system in North Dakota. Tom joined a subsidiary of Bell Labs upon retirement and worked as an electronics technician for seven years. He then began a 16-year teaching stint at Frontrange Community College. He always enjoyed playing the trumpet and entertaining friends. Tom is survived by his wife of 50 years, Pat; sons Geoffrey, Stephen and Thomas; daughter Diane; and two grandchildren.
