Laura Woodberry Jessiman ’80
Laura Woodberry Jessiman ’80 died on June 24, 2009, in a hiking accident near Durness, Scotland, while vacationing with family at their second home in Scourie. Laura grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut, and attended Greenwich Academy before graduating from the Madeira School in Virginia. At Dartmouth she captained women’s crew, wrote for The Dartmouth and graduated with honors in Asian studies. She met her husband, Alistair ’79, at Dartmouth and had recently celebrated 27 years of marriage. Laura’s greatest joy was her family. She was a fixture at her children’s sporting events, including many of her son Hugh’s Dartmouth hockey games. She had a passion for cooking and gardening and loved to visit new places with her extended family. In recent years she traveled with her parents and sisters to Rome, France and Russia and visited South America, Tuscany and Prague with her husband and children. Laura enjoyed hill-walking, bicycling and spending time with her friends and family. She also played the piano, studied French and Spanish and volunteered at the Waterside School in Stamford, Connecticut. She loved music and regularly attended the ballet and the symphony. Laura’s friend and classmate Father Gerry Murray Jr.’80 officiated at her funeral Mass. She is survived by her husband, Alistair; children Hugh ’06, Andrew and Margaret ’12; parents Paul ’49 and Sandy; siblings Seth ’81, Sarah ’87, Sturgis ’88, and Lesley; and uncle Bob Woodberry ’54.
