John Starkweather Fenno ’48


John Starkweather Fenno ’48 died on February 16 in Canajoharie, New York, where he had lived since 1963. He graduated from Western High School in Washington, D.C., served in the Navy during World War II, received his B.A. at Dartmouth, where he was active in Phi Delta Alpha/Phi Delta Theta and took his M.B.A. at Tuck School class of ’49. John actively supported our class and was treasurer for 14 years. He joined Beech-Nut Corp. in 1963 and subsequently worked for several area hospitals until his retirement. He and his wife, Grace, were founding members of the Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service, where he served for 25 years. John enjoyed skiing, sailing and woodworking and was a member of the National Ski Patrol and the Otsego (New York) Sailing Club. He is survived by Grace, three sons, two grandchildren, two brothers and several nieces and nephews. John’s family has a strong, generational Dartmouth legacy as his father, Jesse, was class of ’16 and son J. Christopher is class of ’72.
