George Raymond Funk ’43


George Raymond Funk ’43 died July 16. Ray grew up in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, and graduated from the local high school, where he was an honor student and played football for three years. At Dartmouth he majored in economics and played football. After graduation he joined the Air Corps (weather squadron), and when his stateside service ended in 1945, he entered graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a master of letters. He then joined Westinghouse in its personnel department and later moved on to personnel work with Kaiser Engineers. He spent the 20 years before his retirement in 1987 with Federal Laboratories Inc. After retirement he became involved with the ownership and operation of the Murrysville (Pennsylvania) Golf Course and became president of the Keystone Public Golf Association, which he established to provide U.S. Golf Association services such as course ratings, handicapping and tournaments. Ray married Mary “May” Noble in 1948. She survives him, as do his children Nancy and David.
