Alden Ernest Fallows ’52

Alden Ernest Fallows ’52 of Bass River, Massachusetts, died peacefully at home on May 12. Alden graduated from Southwestern High School in Detroit, where he was a class leader and senior class president. After serving four years in the Merchant Marine and Coast Guard Reserve, he majored in government at Dartmouth. He married Marjorie while at Dartmouth. In Hanover they bought the first of seven old homes that they would restore and live in. He subsequently served as health underwriter and officer at Paul Revere and Berkshire Life Insurance Cos. and at North American Reinsurance Co. in New York City. In 1979 he retired, bringing his family to Cape Cod. There, for 30 years, he and Marge ran Captain Isaiah’s House, one of the Cape’s first European-style bed and breakfasts. As an innkeeper he entertained his guests with stories and humor. His retirement combined his four lifelong passions: family, sailing, choral singing and working on old houses. He was actively involved with several Cape choral groups, the South Yarmouth Library, the formation of the local cultural center, and a great books discussion group. He is survived by Marjorie, children Becky, Pam and Dave, grandchildren Matt, Brian, Heather and Alison and brother John.
