Douglas Townsend Pitman ’47 of Blufton, South Carolina, died on March 12, 2014. He grew up in Andover, Massachusetts, attended Phillips Andover Academy and was assigned to Dartmouth in the naval V-12 program. He majored in chemistry, ran cross country and joined Gamma Delta Chi. After military service he was employed as a physicist at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory at Harvard University. In retirement he moved to South Carolina. He is survived by four children.
