Deke Jackson is still living in his own home with Nadine in Mount Dora, Florida. A banker, he attended a convention in Washington, D.C., and contacted our then U.S. senator classmate Slade Gorton.
Joe Sullivan Jr. ’78 called to tell me (and then sent me) a column about his dad’s football career. We reminisced about Joe’s long back-and-forth run against Cornell—maybe 100 yards—in a game that no one who saw will ever forget.
John Frederick Goodrich ’49 died on September 21, 2017, near Littlefield, New Hampshire, where he lived. John graduated from Hanover High School and was seriously wounded in the Battle of the Bulge before entering Dartmouth.
George H. Hartman ’49 died on February 20 at his home in Hanover. George came to Dartmouth from Huntington (New York) High School, and received his M.E. from Thayer.
Edward H. Leede ’49 died on February 24 in Denver, where he lived. Ed came to Dartmouth from Bayside High School in Flushing, New York. His name is synonymous with Dartmouth basketball, and survives him on Leede Arena.
Donald Richard Pardee ’49 died on January 13. Donald, who lived in Palm Bay, Florida, came to Dartmouth from East New York High School in Brooklyn and was in the Navy V-5 aviator program.
Alfred Thomas Quirk ’49 died on October 12, 2017, at his home in Hanover. Al graduated from Meredith (New Hampshire) High School and spent three years with the Marines in the South Pacific before coming to Dartmouth.
