Benjamin Coalter Crawford ’92

Benjamin Coalter Crawford ’92, beloved husband of Stephanie Ann Luongo and devoted father to Ava (13), Harrison (11) and Macy (9), died peacefully surrounded by his family on February 3 in Falls Church, Virginia. Born in New York, Ben attended Brookline (Massachusetts) High School. At Dartmouth Ben played baseball, sang in the Dartmouth Aires, majored in history and was a member of Fire & Skoal. Ben’s zeal for social and racial justice led him to join the City Year Corps in Boston, and he earned a master’s in public policy at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas in 2000, then served for 15 years as a senior analyst on the strategic issues team at the U.S. General Accountability Office in Washington, D.C. An avid Red Sox fan, Ben treasured family trips to Squam Lake, New Hampshire. He attracted a flock of devoted, lifelong friends wherever he went, and his determined, centered, joyful attitude during his nearly three-year journey with brain cancer served as an inspiration to all who knew him. Ben is also survived by his parents, Linda and James ’58; brother Henry and sister-in-law Siobhan; sister Betsy ’86 and brother-in-law Bill Ragan ’82; brother Rob ’90 and sister-in-law Meg; uncle D. Scott Palmer ’59; cousins Asa ’98, Crawford ’93 and Walter ’90 Palmer; and 14 nephews and nieces, including Jimmy Ragan ’16. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Henry ’25, and his grandfather’s twin brother, Francis ’25.
