The College has honored Preston Kelsey II ’58, Doug Wise ’59, Tom Daniels ’82, Todd Cranford ’85, and Andrea Lordan ’86 with 2012-13 Dartmouth Alumni Awards, and E. Stina Brock ’01, Th’02, and David Wagner ’99 have earned Dartmouth Young Alumni Distinguished Service Awards for service to the College and their communities. Hardy Hendren ’47, DMS’50, a pediatric surgeon from Boston, has received the 2012 Jacobson Innovation Award from the American College of Surgeons in recognition of his innovative surgical techniques. His developments revolutionized the practice of pediatric surgery in reconstruction of the urinary and genital tract in patients with severe urogenital abnormalities.

Burke Whitman ’78, who previously served as the regimental deputy commander of the 25th Marine Regiment in Fort Devens, Massachusetts, will now serve as deputy commanding general of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was promoted to brigadier general in July.

John Hueston ’86, a partner in the Los Angeles office of Irell & Manella, has earned the Anti-Defamation League’s Marcus Kaufman Jurisprudence Award for contributions to the legal profession and the community. Hueston, who co-chairs the firm’s white-collar criminal defense practice, was the lead prosecutor for the 2006 Enron trial of Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling and is the president of the Orange County Bar Association Charitable Fund.

Frederick Davidson ’59 of Victoria, Australia, has been appointed a member in the general division of the Order of Australia. The award, bestowed upon Davidson on June 11, recognizes his commitment to commerce and community through work in human resources and service, health and educational organizations.

Wendy Nelson-Kauffman ’83, a humanities teacher at the Capitol Region Education Council Metropolitan Learning Center in Bloomfield, Connecticut, has been named the National Teacher of the Year by Magnet Schools of America. Nelson-Kauffman, the Connecticut Teacher of the Year in 2003 and Connecticut History Teacher of the Year in 2005, has said her greatest accomplishment is the work of her students to raise awareness of human trafficking and child labor through Student Abolitionists Stopping Slavery.

Robert Messner ’60 has led the development of the Braddock’s Battlefield History Center, a 5,000-square-foot museum and visitors center on the site of the Battle of Monongahela, which took place in July 1755. The center, which opened in August after 17 years of planning, features a collection of art, documents and artifacts about the Braddock Expedition and the French and Indian War as it unfolded in the Pennsylvania region.

Clayton Adams ’93, Tu’99, has been appointed CEO of Quechee, Vermont-based glassware company Simon Pearce. Adams previously worked as CEO of Resource Systems Group, a Vermont-based management consulting firm.

Alex Ghesquiere ’99 coached the San Francisco-based ultimate Frisbee team Revolver to a second world championship in Japan in July. Ghesquiere, who played ultimate at Dartmouth, was the team captain when Revolver won Worlds in 2010.
