Anthony George Muello ’36

Anthony George Muello ’36 passed away at his home in Arlington, Massachusetts, on August 1. He came to Dartmouth from Cushing Academy. At Dartmouth he majored in history and was a member of Tabard/Sigma Chi, the freshman and varsity football teams and wrestling. He played end on one of those great Earl “Red” Blaik teams and was a part of the 1934 win over Harvard and the 1935 defeat of the Yale jinx! After graduation he taught for two years at the Severn School in Maryland, and reported on horseracing for the Boston newspapers. He returned to Boston to work for the Grange during the Second World War and at night attended law school at Boston College, where in 1944 he was awarded a juris doctor degree. He then practiced law in Boston for more than 50 years until retirement in 2003. Tony was active in alumni affairs, serving on his class executive committee for 19 years and as a class agent from 1987 until 1991 as well as attending almost all of the class reunions. Grandson Nathan Gair ’10 is a Dartmouth relative. On April 12, 1950, Tony and Esther Schroeder, M.D., were married. He was preceded in death by his siblings Emma, Bill and Joe and his beloved Esther, who died in 1986. He is survived by his children Karin, Peter ’74 and Wendy ’78 and seven grandchildren.
