William Newton Ford ’52

William Newton Ford ’52 of Rancho Bernardo, California, died peacefully on February 1. Bill was born and raised in Sioux City, Iowa, and prepared for college at Shattuck Military School. At Dartmouth Bill majored in architecture, was a member of Delta Tau Delta and was a letterman on the crew team. Bill served on active duty as an officer in the U.S. Navy for four years and remained active in the naval reserve for 20 years, retiring with rank of lieutenant commander. After the service Bill returned to Sioux City and established a successful real estate business. He was an active Mason and Shriner there. Bill and his wife, Patricia, were married in 1953 and she passed away in 1990. In the mid-1990s Bill retired and relocated to southern California, living for many years in Poway, near San Diego, before moving to Rancho Bernardo. Bill is survived by his brother Alvin; daughters Kathy, Susan and Francy; and granddaughters Courtney, Patricia and Theresa. Bill’s father, Burton Ford ’23, and his father-in-law, Gerald Stone ’22, were Dartmouth alumni.
