William L. Clark ’41

William L. Clark ’41, M.D., of Corte Madera, California, died on July 7, 2011. He came to Dartmouth from Fresno, California. At Dartmouth Bill was a busy premed interested in swimming and photography. After graduation in 1941 he attended the University of Rochester Medical School, receiving his M.D. in 1944. Also in 1944, he married Patricia Magowan, who earned her M.D. at the University of Rochester Medical School at the same time. Bill was in private practice from 1945 to 1977 in Mill Valley, California. From 1975 to 1987 he served as medical director of the division of industrial accidents for the State of California. He was a founding member of the Medical Insurance Exchange of California, and its secretary-treasurer and the chairman of its underwriting committee from 1975 to 1985. Bill served the Mill Valley community as a member of the school’s board, and as its chair from 1960 to 1968. Since 1953 he was an enthusiastic supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Scoutmaster for six years. He then chaired its Marin County executive committee, receiving every single Scouting medal and award that they gave. Bill and Patricia (now deceased) had three children, Kathleen, John and Mark. Bill served as a member of our class executive committee from 1981 to 1985.
