William Campbell Burr ’43

William Campbell Burr ’43 died May 30, 2009. Bill came to Dartmouth from Yonkers, New York. He played baseball and basketball at Dartmouth and was a member of Chi Phi and Heorot. Bill was a captain in the Signal Corps during WW II and served in Hollandia, New Guinea, Biak, Cebu, Leyte and Japan. After the war Bill joined General Electric in marketing and ended up as the regional manager of the dishwasher and disposal division. In 1968 Bill left GE to become vice president of Paramount Foods in Louisville, Kentucky, a position he held until his retirement in 1990. Bill was always active in volunteer work—with Dare to Care homeless shelter, Hospice, raising money for National Public Radio, and acting as patient representative for a local surgery group. Bill and wife Geraldine, whom he married in 1945, also spent volunteer hours working for the Salvation Army and other local missions. “What a wonderful way to start the seventh decade of one’s life,”
