William C. Mudgett ’41
William C. Mudgett ’41 died June 24, 2011, in Delray Beach, Florida. At Dartmouth Bill was ranked nationally in both tennis and golf. He served as captain in the U.S. Army in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps in Mississippi and in the ordinance department at Aberdeen, Maryland. He then became secretary-treasurer of the United Mine Workers in Washington, D.C., formed by John L. Lewis for miners’ rights and well-being. Bill served also as legal arbitrator for the American Federation of Government Employees in D.C. Bill was predeceased by his former spouse, Janet. He is survived by his loving friend Rita Gourd, children Carol, William and Kevin and grandchildren William IV and Patricia.
