William Barton “Ezz” Hale ’44

William Barton “Ezz” Hale ’44 died on August 20, 2015, at his family camp at Lake Clear in the Adirondacks, New York. Ezz held about every possible executive position in the class, including head agent, president for five years and stand-in president for partial terms, alumni councilor, chairman of several reunion committees and campaigns for Dartmouth—the list goes on. Ezz was a generous and regular behind-the-scenes donor, not only in the Dartmouth community, but also in his hometown of Rochester, New York. His wife, Pat, predeceased him, but for many years they were a “power couple” before the term was in vogue. A devoted father and community member, he was modest and soft-spoken and loved a good joke, although he could take forever to deliver one.
