Walter Benjamin Lashar III ’52

Walter Benjamin Lashar III ’52 of Simsbury, Connecticut, husband of the late Elizabeth (Wright) Lashar, passed away at his home on February 16, 2015. He was born August 21, 1929, in Fairfield, Connecticut, attended the Gilman Country School in Baltimore and came to Dartmouth from his home in York, Pennsylvania. He graduated with a degree in sociology and received an M.B.A. from Tuck in 1958, after serving two years in the U.S. Army at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was a member of Gamma Delta Chi and DOC and an active alumnus volunteer for Dartmouth. He had a long career in banking in New England and retired as a vice president at Fleet Bank in 1987. Walter was an avid outdoorsman and environmentalist who enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially gardening. He was a member of the Coventry Game Club, Trout Unlimited, the National Rifle Association, the Connecticut Rose Society and the Farmington River Watershed Association. He is survived by children Walter IV, Timothy and Susan and their spouses; six grandchildren; sister Sally and brother David. In addition to his wife, who passed away in 1993, he was predeceased by granddaughter Elizabeth and sister Lucy. Several relatives attended Dartmouth, including his father, Walter Jr. ’27, brother David ’61 and nephew J. David ’85.
