Vincent C. Albo ’51
Vincent C. Albo ’51, M.D., died on November 3, 2015, after a life of extraordinary contribution in the fields of pediatric hematology and oncology. Vince was a premed student at Dartmouth and a member of Alpha Delta Phi and the freshman track and lacrosse teams. He received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School. He later recalled, “I did better academically at Pitt than at Dartmouth. But then, I didn’t go to the movies 13 nights in a row while I was in medical school.” He became a professor of pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School and a senior pediatric staff member at both the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and Magee Women’s Hospital. In addition to his clinical practice he was actively engaged in developing and validating protocols that contributed to a dramatic increase in the survival rate of young cancer patients. He was a member of the board of directors of the Leukemia Society of Pittsburgh and active with the Ashley Barrasso Cancer Research Fund and the Steve Faloon Memorial Bone Marrow Transplant Fund. Vince was devoted to the care of his young patients and their families. He was instrumental in bringing to Pittsburgh Ronald McDonald House, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Candle Lighters. He was honored by these organizations and by Children’s Hospital. Vince is survived by his wife, Trink, three children, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and brother Charles ’58.
