Thornton Briggs Wierum ’47

Thornton Briggs Wierum ’47 died on September 8, 2012, in Webster, New York. He grew up in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, attended Kent School and was assigned to Dartmouth in the Marine V-12 unit. He participated in crew and majored in government. He served in the Marines from 1943 to 1945 and 1951 to 1952, retiring as a captain. He earned an LL.B. from Columbia in 1948. As a lawyer he joined J. Walter Thompson Agency in New York City. He was transferred in 1953 to Chicago, where he worked for more than 35 years, rising to become senior vice president of that office. In retirement he enjoyed playing golf and gardening. He was predeceased by his wife and is survived by three daughters.
