Tell Carroll Schreiber III ’63
Tell Carroll Schreiber III ’63 died on March 1 in Seattle after a two-month struggle with cancer. He was about to move to Portugal when a trip to the doctor for a leg problem revealed a sarcoma that had metastasized to his lungs. Tell was born in New York City; moved to Pipersville, Pennsylvania; and attended Central Bucks High School, where he was a star wrestler, football, and baseball player and valedictorian of his class. Tell took a leave of absence from Dartmouth in 1961, enlisted in the U.S. Army and enrolled in the Monterey Language Institute, where he learned Russian and served as an interpreter in Germany specializing in Russian submarine communications. He graduated Dartmouth in 1966 with a degree in drama. In 1987 Tell enrolled at York University in Toronto and earned a master’s in acting and directing. He will be remembered as a celebrated actor, director, and woodworker in his adopted home of Bainbridge Island, Washington, where he lived with his partner, Osa Bogren, for 23 years. He was a familiar face on the stage at Bainbridge Performing Arts and the Island Theatre. He directed shows for the Island Theatre and served several years on its board of directors. Tell is survived by Osa, three children, and many stepchildren and grandchildren.
