Stephen J. Prouty ’51
Stephen J. Prouty ’51, whose lifelong interests were in the arts, especially theater, and travel, died in San Francisco on December 24, 2012. Steve attended Pelham (New York) Memorial High School and served in the U.S. Army before coming to Dartmouth. He stayed at Dartmouth for two years and was active in the Dartmouth Players before transferring to Columbia University’s School of Dramatic Arts. He graduated from Columbia in 1951 with a B.S. in theater, with emphases in acting and directing. Steve remained interested and involved in the theater for his entire life. His love of travel led him to Travel+Leisure magazine, where he served as assistant to the managing editor until his retirement in 1991. He was also an active volunteer in San Francisco at Project Open Hand and St. Francis Memorial Hospital. He is survived by nephew Douglas Prouty ’81.
