Sidney Harold Widrow ’53

Sidney Harold Widrow ’53 died October 26, 2009. Sid majored in chemistry-zoology and was a Rufus Choate Scholar. Following Harvard Medical School and postdoctoral training in Boston Hospitals concentrating on internal medicine and kidney diseases, he headed to California. Early on in his career he suffered a stroke, which involved the renal arteries. He was given two to five years to live. He married Bernice, and they had a daughter. Sid’s practice, not surprisingly, took him deeply into nephrology as a clinician, during which he was instrumental in creating a dialysis unit in a community hospital. Sid covered many aspects of medical practice—in a hospital, a private practice (nephrology and internal medicine), in conjunction with the government and finally as a professor at Stanford Medical School. Upon retiring he became a part owner in an assisted living facility and was involved in politics. We will miss him.
