Scott Parrot ’45
Scott Parrot ’45 passed away on January 4 in Vero Beach, Florida. He lived most of his life in Massachusetts, growing up in Winchester, raising his family in Belmont and enjoying his early retirement years in Marion. He was an alumnus of Wyman School in Winchester, Belmont Hill School and Dartmouth. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in WW II with the 4th Division 25th Regiment in the South Pacific and received an honorable medical discharge with the “loss of use of a limb,” an injury that resulted in his walking with the help of his signature cane. Cane in hand, he was an avid tennis player, golfer and skater. After the war he continued to sky dive, maintained a private pilot’s certificate and was a sport parachutist. His family, however, was always his passion and his pride. He was predeceased by his first wife, Nonie, their daughter Heidi and his second wife, Eleanor. He leaves his wife, Winifred, son Kent, five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Scott was instrumental in the launching of the Winchester Pop Warner program and was a coach of the Wee Sachems on Westside Field. He established the Youth Hockey Association of America with the help of the Taylor Family (then owners of The Boston Globe) and will be remembered by hundreds of hockey players who came from near and far to participate in his hockey programs on Saturday mornings. He retired from business as the eastern and international advertising manager of The Wall Street Journal.
