Samuel Henry Packer ’47

Samuel Henry Packer ’47, a retired rear admiral of the Navy, died in Alexandria, Virginia, on November 4, 2013. He grew up in Lake Placid, New York, and attended Northwood School. He was assigned to Dartmouth in the V-12 program. In college he played varsity hockey. He graduated from Tufts University with a B.S. in engineering sciences in 1945 and from Washington University with an M.A. in international relations in 1964. He served 40 years in the Navy, two as an enlisted man and 38 as an officer. He worked for several organizations in the District of Columbia. His last 25 years were spent with the Institute for Defense Analysis in Alexandria. In retirement he served for 10 years as a member of the board of directors of the American Bahrain Friendship Society and enjoyed stamp collecting. He is survived by his wife and five children.
