Ryland E. Robbins ’44

Ryland E. Robbins ’44 died on February 24 at his home in Jupiter Island, Florida. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey, and spent summers in his youth with his family in Franconia, New Hampshire. During his sophomore year at Dartmouth he enlisted in the Army; after the war he continued his studies at the Tuck School and graduated with a degree in economics. Upon graduation he joined the family greeting card business, Sunshine Art Studios Inc. in N.Y.C., which was started by his grandfather and his father. Ry was treasurer, responsible for growing and expanding the business to Springfield and East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, and Reno, Nevada. He retired in 1985. He lived in Longmeadow for more than 25 years and was active in various local civic groups. He was a baseball coach for the Longmeadow Little League Association. He enjoyed horseback riding, hiking, skiing, golf and photography. Ry and his family spent summers at their farm raising black Angus and Holstein cows in Westerlo, New York. He donated generously through the years and was part of an esteemed group of founders at Jupiter (Florida) Medical Center. His wife, Denise, two stepdaughters, 11 children and 16 grandchildren survive him.
