Russell Croswell Johnson ’45

Russell Croswell Johnson ’45, M.D., died May 17 in Gainesville, Georgia. “Rusty” came to Dartmouth from Deerfield Academy. After receiving his A.B. from Dartmouth he went on to New York Medical College for his M.D. He served in the Navy in the Korean conflict as a medical officer aboard the USS Glynn. He later received a master’s in public health from the University of Michigan School of Public Health. He started his practice of internal medicine in White Plains, New York. He was director of the Hospital Association of New York, commissioner of health for Orange County, New York, and past president of Goshen Rotary Club. He retired to Gainesville, where his three daughters resided. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Janet, daughters Audrey, Sara and Barbara, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
