Rod Sweeny ’45

Rod Sweeny ’45 of Hagerstown, Maryland, died December 10, 2011, at Reeder’s Memorial Home in Boonsboro, Maryland. He was the husband of Katherine, whom he had met on a blind date from Mount Holyoke in 1943. He joined General Electric in 1949 and worked on the transition of the Fred Waring Show from radio to TV. Rod was called back by the Marine reserves for Korea and then went back to advertising with GE until his retirement. At that time he became owner and operator of Quality Quick Print in Hagerstown for more than 10 years. He served a two-year term as president of the New York Chapter of International Advertising Association, received its Medal of Merit in 1968 and was re-elected to its board of directors. He served on the school board and participated in many local civic and community groups. He was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Hagerstown and the Hagerstown Exchange Club for many years. In addition to his wife, Rod is survived by sons Roger ’71 and Paul and daughter Marian.
