Robert W. Hillier ’48

Robert W. Hillier ’48 died peacefully at home in Howell, New Jersey, on July 11, 2014. The son of Sadie and Francis Hillier, he was born in Patterson, New Jersey, and after his mother’s death when he was 2 was raised in the Paterson Orphanage. He graduated from East Side High School and enlisted in the Navy, serving his country for six years during World War II on the USS Texas and the USS Curtis. Bob was part of the Navy V-12 program at Dartmouth, a member of Zeta Psi and on the staff of Jack-O-Lantern. He married Marion Albinson in 1949 and they were together with family until her death nine months before his. Bob worked at Thiokol/Reaction Motors in Denville, New Jersey, and Monroe Systems in Morris Plains, New Jersey, but his real résumé reflects that he was a man of character, compassion and humor. He loved music, books, chocolate, dogs, poetry, politics and making people laugh. Bob was predeceased by his parents; brother Francis, who died when Bob was 7; brother Roland, who died while in the U.S. Army Air Force; and his beloved wife. He is survived by son Robert Jr. and his wife, Lori; daughter Kim and her husband, Rich; grandchildren K.C., Brooks, Keith, Craig and Emily; nephew George; and niece Dorothy and family.
