Robert Sisson Moyer ’43

Robert Sisson Moyer ’43 died September 14, 2014, at Silver Lake Rehabilitation Center in Dover, Delaware. Bob was raised in Providence, Rhode Island, and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School. At Dartmouth he majored in American history. After graduation Bob worked as a reporter for The Providence Journal briefly before entering the Columbia School of Journalism. He received his M.A. in 1945 and joined the staff of the Baltimore Evening Sun. During Bob’s Baltimore years he met and married Anne Tewes, was a copyeditor for The News American, produced a television program on public education and was a speechwriter for the Maryland Department of Education. In 1951 Bob joined the Baltimore Housing Authority as director of public relations. In 1962 he joined the Federal City Council as executive director, leaving it to return to the Baltimore Housing Authority as deputy director and acting director in 1965. Five years later he was appointed state director of housing in Delaware, a position he held until his retirement in 1986. After retirement Bob was a part-time copyeditor, editor of the “Viewpoints” page and finally a weekly columnist for The Delaware State News. Early in retirement he served as a consultant in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. There was also time to be an Alumni Fund agent for Dartmouth. Bob was predeceased by Anne. He is survived by children Robert Jr., Carol Anne and Dennis, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
