Robert Raine Stirling ’57

Robert Raine Stirling ’57 died on January 11 at his home in Redding, Connecticut. He came to Dartmouth from East Hartford, Connecticut, where he attended Kingswood School. Bob’s studies were interrupted when he joined the Marine Corps and served in Korea with the 1st Marine Division. He returned to Hanover and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with an A.B. in business administration and a M.B.A. cum laude from Tuck in 1958. For 30 years he worked in management for IBM, traveling extensively to destinations including Paris and Tokyo. In 1989 Bob took early retirement from IBM and went to work for Drake Bean Morin, a transition management company, first working in Hartford and then in its New York office. After retiring in 1996, he joined the board of directors of Strive, a nonprofit job-training organization. Bob is survived by his wife, Rita, three daughters, two sons and eight grandchildren. His daughter Marjorie graduated from the Dartmouth Medical School in 1995 with an M.S. from its center for evaluative sciences.
