Robert Paul Montague ’45

Robert Paul Montague ’45 died November 28, 2010, at his home in Dallas. He was born in Virginia, Minnesota, raised in nearby Duluth and graduated from Lake Forest Academy in Illinois before Dartmouth. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp and served as a technical sergeant in the 81st Bomber Squadron, 490th Bomber Group, in the European theater from 1943 to 1945. He earned his mechanical engineering degree at the University of Minnesota and spent his professional life designing jet engines for General Electric, primarily in Cincinnati, Ohio. He celebrated 60 years of marriage to Patricia this past August. After his retirement they enjoyed the beaches in Port Aransas, Texas, and the desert and mountains in Green Valley, Arizona. He was predeceased by their youngest daughter, Mary. He is survived by his wife, children Bill, Joanne, Rob, Nan and John and six grandchildren. In 1955 he had one of the last pre-Sabin-vaccine bouts with polio, and his family remembers him for the love and persistence he showed when others would have given up.
