Robert McAllister Hamill ’43

Robert McAllister Hamill ’43, M.D., died February 26, 2005, at the Genesis ElderCare Keene (New Hampshire) Center. Bob grew up in Holyoke, Massachusetts. At Holyoke High School he was a member of the National Honor Society, band and orchestra and on the staff of the school paper. Bob entered Dartmouth with our class, but did not graduate. While at college he was a chemistry-zoology major and a member of the Ledyard Canoe Club, the band and Phi Sigma Kappa. After graduating from McGill Medical School in 1947 he joined the Naval Reserve. During the Korean War Bob served in the Mediterranean. He completed his surgical residency at Boston City Hospital and taught at Boston University Med School until 1965, when he moved to Keene, New Hampshire, and joined the Keene Clinic, where he maintained a surgical practice until his retirement in 1986. Bob skied until 1997, enjoyed extensive travel and photography and was an enthusiastic gardener and bird watcher. In 1951 he married Barbara Frost, who died in 1997. He was also predeceased by daughter Patricia. He is survived by sons Bruce, Christopher and Robert, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
