Robert Irwin Silverberg ’54

Robert Irwin Silverberg ’54 of Paradise Valley, Arizona, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2023, after a short illness. Robert was born in 1933 to Harry and Lillian Silverberg in Brooklyn, New York. After graduation from Columbia Grammar and Prep School, Robert received his degree from Dartmouth before joining the U.S. Navy. He met Robyn Horne through her brother, Elliot, and they wed December 18, 1955, while he was serving as a communications officer aboard the USS Hyman and USS Leyte. He went on to receive his law degree at New York University. The family welcomed son Kenneth and daughter Jane to the family. Robert practiced law in Astoria with his father until the family relocated from King’s Point, New York, to Paradise Valley. Robert participated in family business endeavors in the Scottsdale, Arizona, area and did legal work for the family’s business concerns in New York. His passions were family, pets, and organizing family boating and motor home excursions. He could often be found tinkering on vintage Porsches in the garage and was an avid audiophile. Robert loved collecting Native American art and jewelry with Robyn. The research and stories behind each piece were as important as the collection itself. All who encountered Robert were touched by his negotiation skills and generosity. Robert was predeceased by Robyn in 2023 and sister Rita in 2004. He is survived by son Kenneth and daughter Jane and her husband, David.
