Robert Hilliard Sherman ’48

Robert Hilliard Sherman ’48 died at Hartford (Connecticut) Hospital on May 2, 2009. He came to Dartmouth from Fall River, Massachusetts, to enter the Marine V-12 unit. On campus he double majored in economics and history. An active alumnus, he frequently visited Hanover from his West Hartford, Connecticut, home and to visit his son Douglas ’71 when he was at the College. Bob spent his entire career with Travelers Insurance Co. marketing casualty-property insurance in the United States and United Kingdom, retiring as secretary of the corporation. He was active in local and church affairs, traveled widely and enjoyed golf and skiing. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Muriel and children Douglas ’71 and Leslie.
