Robert Henry Mathog ’60

Robert Henry Mathog ’60, M.D., died on October 10, 2014, at Harper Hospital in Rochester, Michigan, the College has recently learned. He had served for many years as chair of the Wayne State School of Medicine’s department of otolaryngology, specializing in head and neck surgery. He was also chief of otolaryngology at Harper and Detroit receiving hospitals from 1977 to 2007. Robert built a national and international reputation for facial trauma, cancer and rehabilitative surgery, publishing more than 200 papers and chapters in his field. He was well known for his widely used book, Textbook of Maxiofacial Trauma. Because of his renown in his field he received numerous national and international honors and served on significant boards and advisory councils. Robert grew up in Woodbridge, Connecticut, graduating from Hamden High School before matriculating to Dartmouth, where he majored in zoology and was involved in the DOC for all four years. Robert is survived by his wife, Denna, daughters Tiby, Heather and Lauren, son Jason, brother Alan and five grandchildren.
