Robert Gordon Pumphrey ’36 died February 27, 2009, at his home in Reno, Nevada. He majored in economics and was a member of Delta Tau Delta and the gymnastics team. He attended Columbia University and worked as an economist, engineer and schoolteacher. During WW II he served in the Pacific as a first lieutenant in the infantry and was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He later became an analyst for Henry Helsen and Co. in San Francisco in 1954. He studied at Church Divinity School of the Pacific and was awarded an M.A. in 1958. Ordained as an Episcopal minister in 1959, he became rector of St. Peter’s in Carson City, Nevada, where he remained until retirement. He was predeceased by first wife Marilynne, second wife Janet, sons David and Douglas and granddaughter Lori. He is survived by daughters Susan and Robin, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
