Robert Chamberlain Joy ’45
Robert Chamberlain Joy ’45, M.D., died November 5, 2009, at Kendal at Hanover. He was born August 23, 1923, in White River Junction, Vermont. He came to Dartmouth from Proctor High School. He left college at the end of the spring semester in 1943 and after basic training in an anti-aircraft battalion served in the Middle and Far East during WW II. He returned to graduate in 1948 and married Nancy Waterman on March 27, 1948. Bob graduated from Dartmouth Medical School in 1949 and completed medical school at McGill University in Montreal. He fulfilled his internship and a year of pediatric training at Mary Hitchcock Hospital and a second year of pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He then established a general pediatric practice and became a member of the Danbury (Connecticut) Hospital medical staff. He was on the board of the Danbury Regional Child Advocacy Center and with his wife, Nancy, was a founding member of the Nurturing Families Network of Western Connecticut. He retired to Hanover in 2003 and contributed significantly to the class of ’45 as class secretary and member of the reunion committee. He is survived by children Christopher, Kathleen and Susan and three grandchildren.
