R. Paige O’Brien ’51

R. Paige O’Brien ’51 died on August 1, 2014, at his home in Ridgefield, Connecticut. He loved life in the outdoors. The family cottage on Lake George, New York, where he and his wife, Marilyn, and their large family enjoyed every kind of water sport, was his favorite spot in the world. Friends describe him as a “spectacular skier.” He took great pleasure when several of his children and grandchildren competed on the ski racing circuit. His family recalls life with Paige as being filled with creativity and imagination and constant surprise. He delighted in inventing new games; night ski-jumping in the back yard with no lights was a favorite. Dinner might be delayed because a newly repaired boat engine was drying in the oven. The children were mortified when their father posed as the family butler when boyfriends or girlfriends called. At Dartmouth Paige was a mathematics major and earned an M.B.A. from the Tuck School. He was active in the ski patrol, Germania and The Dartmouth and as a member of the freshman football team. After graduation from Tuck he joined General Electric Co. as a production and automation manager. He went on to take on vice presidencies at American Express, Chemical Bank and the Equitable, with responsibilities at each firm for systems planning and development. Paige is survived by his wife, six children, 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
