Powell Campbell Groner Jr. ’43

Powell Campbell Groner Jr. ’43 died February 24 in Kansas City, Missouri. Powell graduated from Pembroke Country Day School in Kansas City, where he was on the honor roll, played football and baseball and was a member of the track team. At Dartmouth Powell majored in English, was a member of the Ledyard Canoe Club, the Dartmouth Outing Club and Phi Sigma Kappa. After graduation Powell became a pilot in the Naval Air Corps. Later he was stationed in San Diego with the Navy Reserve during the Korean War. After discharge he spent most of his business career with the Western Auto Supply Co. in its Kansas City headquarters. He was a longtime volunteer with the United Way and was the men’s division chair in 1966. Powell was also a member of the board of directors of the Island Inn Corp. in Sanibel, Florida, and of Family and Children’s Services locally. Active with the Kansas City Country Club, he served as a president of the Senior Citizens’ Golf Association. Powell was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Helen. He is survived by his sons P. Campbell, Christopher ’73 and Carey and five grandchildren.
