Philip Wade ’66

Philip Wade ’66, M.D., of Lyme, New Hampshire, passed away on June 11, 2013. Phil, a Choate graduate, was a biology major and member of Psi Upsilon at Dartmouth. In 1970 he graduated from Harvard Medical School. Phil served as a physician for more than 30 years, including 25 years for Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and five years as a primary care physician for Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lyme. Most recently Phil was assistant professor of medicine at Dartmouth Medical School, where he was nominated for Dartmouth Medical School’s Excellence in Education and Distinguished Small Group Leader Awards in 2012. Phil was also a board member of the VT/NH Visiting Nurses Association and Hospice. Phil enjoyed traveling with his wife of more than 47 years, Barbara, a Colby-Sawyer grad, friends and family, making many trips to Europe and warm island destinations through the years. Summer vacations were often spent on the coast of Maine, where his family and friends wove a tapestry of memories. He was proud of his family, what they had accomplished together and what they had accomplished as individuals. Phil is survived by Barbara; daughters Julie ’91, Amanda and Anne ’96; and six grandchildren. Phil was endeared to many and his humor, candor and intellectual curiosity will be sorely missed. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
