Peter Barent VosBurgh ’52

Peter Barent VosBurgh ’52 died from heart failure after a lengthy bout with cancer on January 23, 2012, at Northwest Hospital in Tucson, Arizona. He was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, prepared for college at the Loomis School in Windsor, Connecticut, and received his degree from Dartmouth with an English major. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta and played freshman soccer and hockey. Following graduation he served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps and as a major in the Marine Air Reserve. After military service Peter had a long and varied business career, including management responsibilities for United Aircraft International (a predecessor to United Technologies International) in Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand; as an officer in the trust and municipal finance areas of BayBank Connecticut and Connecticut Bank and Trust; and for 15 years acting as business development officer for Business Development Finance Corp. in Tucson. He also served on a number of boards of directors in the greater Hartford, Connecticut, area. He was an avid sportsman, serving as a ski instructor, playing tennis, golf and, after moving to Tucson in 1994, hiking and trekking. His survivors include his wife of 32 years, Maureen, children Leslie, Peter Jr., Jonathan and Christopher and several grandchildren. His father, Van Vleck VosBurgh, was a member of the Dartmouth class of 1922.
