Peter Allen Sherwood ’62

Peter Allen Sherwood ’62 of Santa Fe, New Mexico, passed away on May 20, 2013. He prepared for Dartmouth at the Pingry School in Elizabeth, New Jersey. In Hanover Pete was a history major and a member of Gamma Delta Chi and NROTC. Promptly commissioned upon graduation, he was assigned to the flagship of the Navy’s 6th Fleet for two years of service in the Mediterranean: “Tough duty” he called it, with a smile. Resuming civilian status, Pete was employed by Esso/Exxon in its retail marketing activities and was swiftly promoted to headquarters in Houston. As early as 1971 he began to develop an interest in commercial real estate investments that was independent of, and unrelated to, his oil company employment. The real estate interest eventually displaced petroleum and Pete became fully self-employed by the end of the 1970s. He had a long-term interest in sports cars and for more than 20 years was a member of a group that met monthly to discuss international news and current events. Pete is survived by his wife Paula (“Jo”), daughters Jacqueline and Patricia and five grandchildren.
